Checking/adjusting rest position and free travel of air glow meter plate (engine code: DX and KT 03.86 >)

V25-0393

Checking rest position

  • ‒ → The upper edge of plate must be distance -a- below the cone edge of venturi.
         a = 1.9 ± 1.1 mm.

Adjusting rest position

V25-0004
  • ‒ → Lift air flow meter plate.
  • ‒ Adjust position of plate by bending the wire clip.
Attention!
  • ◆
  • ◆

Checking air flow meter plate free travel

V25-0719

→ The free travel is the play between control plunger and adjusting lever (right-hand arrow) measured on the plate near the fuel distributor (left-hand arrow).

  • ◆ CO content 0.5...1.5 Vol.% corresponds to the basic setting of adjusting lever.
  • ‒ Operate starter or remote control V.A.G 1348/3A for approx. 10 seconds.
  • ‒ Lift meter plate slightly until resistance is felt.

Free travel:

  • ◆ At least 0.5 mm
  • ◆ Max. to cone edge of venturi = 3.0 mm

If free travel is not OK:

  • ‒ Adjust at fuel metering distributor.

Adjusting free travel at fuel metering distributor

V25-0986
  • ‒ → Adjust plate free travel on stop screw for control plunger with adjusting key VW 674/2.
  • (distance a = approx. 0.6 mm between stop screw and shoulder on nut).
    • ‒ turning screw in = free travel greater
    • ‒ turning screw out = free travel less
    • ‒ 1/4 turn = approx. 1.3 mm at the plate
  • ‒ When free travel is correct, check idling adjustment and adjust if necessary =>page 25-31 .

Basic setting of the adjusting lever

Note:

Basic setting of the adjusting lever is only necessary when the metering distributor or the air flow meter been renewed.

V25-0611
  • ‒ → Measure the distance between the contact surfaces for the fuel meting distributor on the flow meter and the roller of the adjusting lever and adjust if necessary with the CO adjusting screw.
         Specified setting: 18.8 ± 0.1 mm*)

*) After adjusting the CO content this setting will lose its validity.
