Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

  • ◆ Fault reader V.A.G 1551 or vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 with cable V.A.G 1551/3
  • ◆ Ignition tester V.A.G 1767 or V.A.G 1367 with H.T. pick-up clamp V.A.G 1367/8

Check conditions

  • ● No fault stored in fault memory.
  • ● Electrical consumers switched off (radiator fan must no run during the check).
 
N02-0006
  • ● Air conditioner switched off.
  • ● Engine oil temperature at least 80°C.

Test sequence

  • ‒ → Connect ignition tester V.A.G 1367 with pick up clamp V.A.G 1367/8 or ignition tester V.A.G 1767
  • ‒ Start engine and run at idling speed.
  • ‒ Interrogate fault memory, if necessary, repair fault and erase memory , interrogating and erasing fault memory.

Then:

 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Input 04 for "initiate basic setting" and confirm with Q.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Basic setting     HELP    
Input display group number XX
  • ‒ Input 01 for "Display group number" and confirm with Q.
 
→ Indicated on display:
(1...4 = Display zones)
System in basic setting 1     ⇒
     1     2     3     4

Note:

The engine speed will increase to ± 1500 RPM.

  • ‒ Check ignition firing point on V.A.G 1767 (V.A.G 1367).
         Test specification: 5 - 7 BTDC.
  • ‒ Should the ignition firing point be outside of the specification, adjusting by turning distributor.
  • ‒ Terminate engine basic setting by pressing the ⇒ key.
  • ‒ Input 06 for "End output" and confirm with Q.
