It is possible to check the individual airbag system components with test box VAS 5056 and to check which components are actually defective.

Connecting test box to driver's side airbag components

Driver's side airbag and steering column switch trim lower part removed.

• ‒ → Connect igniter connector to igniter (dummy) -1- and separate wiring harness to coil connector with slip ring. Connect yellow two pin connector -3- of VAS 5056/1 to airbag wiring harness.

•     1 -    Igniter connector on igniter
•     2 -    Button
•     3 -    Coil connector with slip ring

Connecting test box to passenger's side airbag components

• ‒ Remove stowage compartment on front passenger's side

=> General body repairs; Repair group 68; Compartments, covers and trims; Removing stowage compartment on front passenger's side

• ‒ Separate wiring harness to airbag unit and connect yellow two pin connector -2- of VAS 5056/1 to passenger's side airbag wiring harness.
