Renewing crankshaft oil seal - pulley end
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Toothed belt pulley counterhold tool -3099-
t  Oil seal extractor -2085-
t  Fitting sleeves -T10132-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-

  Note

t  A PTFE oil seal is being gradually introduced (Teflon) -2- in place of oil seal with internal circular spring -1-. This has a wider sealing lip. PTFE oil seals are installed free of oil and grease.
t  An older design radial shaft seal (with coil spring) may be replaced by a PTFE seal, but not the other way around.
Removing:
–  Remove poly V-belt → Chapter.
–  Remove toothed belt → Chapter.
–  Remove crankshaft toothed belt pulley.
  A15-0578
To do this, lock toothed belt pulley using counterhold tool -3099-.
–  Screw inner part of oil seal extractor -2085- two turns (approx. 3 mm) out of outer part and lock with knurled screw.
  A13-0056
–  To guide seal extractor, screw socket head bolt -T10132/3- into crankshaft onto stop.
  N13-0800
–  Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor -2085-, place in position and exerting firm pressure, screw it as far as possible into oil seal.
–  Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against crankshaft until the oil seal is pulled out.
Installing:
Install PTFE oil seals “dry”.
Lightly oil coil spring oil seals.
–  Clean crankshaft journals with a clean cloth.
  V13-1268
–  Fit guide sleeve -T10132/1- onto crankshaft journal.
–  Slide oil seal over guide sleeve.
  N13-0798
–  Press seal in with fitting sleeve -T10132/2- and bolt -T10132/3- to stop.
  N13-0799
–  Install crankshaft toothed belt pulley and lock with counterhold tool for toothed belt sprocket -3099-.
–  Tighten new centre bolt to 90 Nm and turn 90° (1/4 turn) further (turning further can be done in several stages).
–  Installing toothed belt and adjusting valve timing → Chapter.
