Servicing VW II front brake caliper > < Bleeding brake system without brake filling and bleeding unit
Running gear
Removing and installing brake servo/brake master cylinder (right hand drive)
Removing and installing brake servo/brake master cylinder (right hand drive)

Removing

  • ‒ Release brake servo vacuum by operating the brake pedal several times.
  • ‒ Remove air intake elbow complete with air hose from mixture preparation unit and throttle valve housing.
  • ‒ Pull vacuum hose off brake servo unit.
  • ‒ Draw off as much brake fluid as possible from the brake fluid reservoir, with a suction bottle.
  • ‒ Remove hydraulic unit and clutch master cylinder supply pipes from the brake fluid reservoir.
  • ‒ Remove brake fluid reservoir.
  • ‒ Remove brake pipes from Tandem brake master cylinder.
  • ‒ Remove Tandem brake master cylinder from brake servo.

Vehicles with ABS, ABS/EDL:

  • ‒ Remove brake pedal position sender (G100)
    .
  • ‒ Remove shelf on right below dash panel.
  • ‒ Separate brake pedal from brake servo with special tool 3289
  • ‒ Remove brake servo from bulkhead.
  • ‒ Take out brake servo.

Note:

The brake servo can only be removed if the clutch master cylinder, tandem brake master cylinder and brake pedal position sender have been removed.

Installing

Install in reverse order.

    • ‒ Bleeding brakes
    • ‒ Bleeding clutch hydraulic control system
