Rear axle assembly-overview (vehicles with four wheel drive)
Reworking cap nut in side member (four wheel drive vehicles)
If the threads of the cap nut in the side member are damaged it must be either re-tapped or the nut must be drilled out.
When drilling out proceed as follows:

‒ Remove rear axle.

‒ Drill out the cap nut in the side member with a 10.2 mm ø drill from underneath.
Note:
Do not cant the drill when drilling.
Attention!
Wear protective goggles.

‒ Cut new M 12 x 1.5 thread in the cap nut.

‒ To secure the rear axle use new N 102 060 01 (M 12 x 1.5 x 35) bolts.
Note:
The tightening torque remains unchanged at 70 Nm.
