• ◆ 3047A Puller
• ◆ 3122 B Spark plug wrench
• ◆ 3129 Fitting tool
• ◆ T10112 Fitting tool
• ◆ V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench (5 ... 50 Nm)

• ◆ VW 541/1A Lever
• ◆ VW 541/5 Press piece
• ◆ VW 653/3 Pressure hose

Removing

• ‒ Remove camshaft =>page 15-44 .
• ‒ Take out bucket tappet and place down with the running surface downwards. Ensure the bucket tappets are not interchanged when doing this.
• ‒ Pull spark plug connectors off with fitting tool T10112
• ‒ Remove spark plugs with spark plug spanner 3122B.
• ‒ Set piston of appropriate cylinder to "bottom dead centre".

• ‒ → Fit fitting tool 2036 and adjust mountings to height of studs.
• ‒ Screw pressure hose VW 653/3 into the spark plug thread.
• ‒ Connect pressure hose to compressed air supply of
       at least 6 bar
  finally.
• ‒ Remove valve springs with assembly lever VW 541/1A and thrust piece VW 541/5.

Note:

Tight cotters can be loosened by tapping lightly on the lever.

• ‒ → Pull off valve stem seals with 3047A.

Installing

• ‒ → Place the plastic sleeve -A- supplied on the appropriate valve stem. This will prevent the new valve stem seal -B- being damaged.
• ‒ Fit new valve stem seal into fitting tool 3129.
• ‒ Oil valve stem seal sealing lip and press carefully onto the valve guide.
