Installing
Installing
–  Insert injection pump into console and then tighten securing bolt on rear support with conical nut first.
–  Insert front securing bolts and tighten to 25 Nm.
   
–  Loosely bolt injection pump sprocket to hub using securing bolts -arrows-.
–  Note different types of securing bolts for injection pump sprocket → Fig.
–  Lock injection pump sprocket using diesel injection pump locking pin -3359-.
–  Align injection pump pulley centrally in elongated holes.
–  Loosen securing bolt of camshaft sprocket one turn. To loosen securing bolt of camshaft sprocket, secure with counterhold -3036-.
  Note
To loosen and tighten camshaft sprocket, never use camshaft bar -T10098 A- as a counterhold! Use counterhold -3036-.
–  Position two arm puller -T40001- with one arm claw -T40001 /2--A- and two arm claw -T40001 /3--B- centrally on camshaft sprocket and pull sprocket off.

–  When doing this, use open jaw spanner -C- to counterhold.
–  Take off camshaft sprocket.
–  Check whether TDC mark on flywheel and reference mark are aligned.
–  Place tooth belt on injection pump pulley and tensioning roller.
–  Fit camshaft sprocket into toothed belt and secure sprocket to camshaft so that the sprocket can still turn.
–  Tensioning toothed belt → 4-cyl. diesel engine, mechanical system; Rep. Gr.15
–  Connect injection pipes, fuel supply line and electrical lines.

Fill injection pump with diesel as follows.
–  Screw adapter set -V.A.G 1318/10-12- into injection pump return aperture.
–  Connect hand vacuum pump -V.A.G 1390- with approx. 1 m transparent plastic hose to adapter.
–  Operate vacuum pump until fuel flows out of return aperture. Do not draw fuel into vacuum pump.
–  Remove adapter and connect fuel return line.
–  Dynamically check commencement of injection and adjust if necessary → Chapter.
