Two versions of the telephone system are possible. Either as a complete telephone system or as a telephone preparation.
It is possible to retrofit a mobile telephone if the vehicle is prepared for installation of a telephone. To be able to operate telephones in VW vehicles they require their own operating electronics, a so called interface box. This makes the connection between the mobile telephone and the components installed in the vehicle via a standard VDA connector. The VW standard telephone is connected via a special interface box to this VDA connector. Inquiries must be made to the individual telephone manufacturers to establish which interface box is required for their telephones. Interface boxes which do not have a VDA connector require the appropriate adapter (e.g. from Votex).
Vehicles 09.00 ►, the mobile telephone operating electronics control unit (interface box) is factory-fitted in vehicles prepared for “installation of a telephone”. All that is still required is an adapter cable for the connection from the mobile telephone to be used to the VDA connector of the interface box.
