Observe notes for battery terminal connection → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required

The illustration shows the battery of a vehicle with clipped-on fuse holder -3-. The batteries of vehicles with bolted-on fuse holder are connected in the same way.
  N27-0263
–  Attach positive terminal clamp -1- to battery positive terminal.
–  Tighten securing bolt of positive terminal clamp to specified torque setting → Chapter.

–  Only after positive terminal clamp is secure may negative terminal clamp -2- be attached to battery negative terminal.
–  Tighten securing bolts of battery terminal clamps to specified torque setting → Chapter.
–  Close heat shield jacket, if fitted.
–  Carry out the procedures as detailed in the table.
Procedure after reconnecting battery

Switch ignition on and off again using ignition key 
Read fault memory: → Guided fault finding using VAS 5051A. 
Clock: check time/settings and adjust if necessary 
Electric window regulators: open all windows fully and close again, move switch to “Close” position again and hold at this position until control unit switches 
Check function of all electrical consumers 

If necessary, table can be printed out.
