  Note
t  Every time after changing pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary, so that brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
t  After work for which the brake system had to be opened, bleed the brake system with brake charge and bleed system -VAS 5234- or extraction unit -V.A.G 1869/4-.
t  Before removing a brake caliper or disconnecting a brake hose, fit brake pedal depressor -V.A.G 1869/2- (when doing this, release pressure in system).
   
1 - Splash plate
2 - Torx bolt, 12 Nm
3 - Brake disc
q   Internally ventilated, Ø 345 mm.
q   Thickness: 30 mm
q   Wear limit: 27 mm.
q   Always replace on both sides
4 - Torx bolt, 4 Nm
5 - Ribbed bolt
q   Clean if reused.
q   Specified torque for ribbed bolts → Anchor
6 - Brake carrier
q   Bolted to wheel bearing housing.
7 - Brake pads
q   Thickness: 14 mm not including backplate.
q   With break pad wear indicator.
q   When wear reaches a predetermined limit (approx. 4 mm) the warning lamp in the dash panel insert comes on.
q   Wear limit: 2 mm not including backplate.
q   Check thickness → Booklet25.1.
q   Always replace on both sides
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
8 - Retaining spring
q   Insert retaining spring into brake caliper and press under brake carrier.
9 - Brake caliper
q   Do not disconnect brake hose when changing brake pads.
q   Must not be unscrewed from one another.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Repairing → Chapter.
10 - Guide bushes
q   Guide bushes for guide pins.
11 - Guide pin, 30 Nm
12 - Cover cap
q   Remove
13 - Washer
14 - Balance weight
Allocation → Electronic Parts Catalogue (ETKA).
15 - Bolt, 10 Nm
16 - Dust cap
17 - Brake line, 14 Nm
18 - Bolt, 15 Nm
19 - Bracket
q   Bracket for brake pipe/brake hose threaded connection.
20 - Brake hose
21 - Hexagon socket head bolt, 8 Nm
22 - Bracket
23 - Spring clip

Specified torque for ribbed bolts
  Note
Tightening of ribbed bolts is performed in 2 stages.
   
1. stageTighten both ribbed bolts to brake carrier to 15 Nm
2. stageTighten both ribbed bolts to brake carrier to 200 Nm
