Checking engine speed senderG28
Checking engine speed sender -G28-
Engine speed sender -G28- is speed and reference mark sender. The engine will not start if there is no speed signal. If the speed signal fails when the engine is running, it will cause the engine to stall immediately.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hand multimeter -V.A.G 1526C- or multimeter -V.A.G 1715-
t  Adapter set -V.A.G 1594C-
t  Adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31-
t  Current flow diagram
Test procedure

–  Disconnect black 3-pin connector to engine speed sender -G28--arrow-.
  N23-0375
–  Measure resistance between connector contacts 1+2.
Specification: 1.1…1.6 kΩ
–  Check the sender for short-circuit between contacts 1 + 3 as well as 2 + 3.
Specification: ∞ Ω.
If the specifications are not attained:
–  Renew engine speed sender -G28-: → Engine mechanical system; Rep. Gr.13
–  Read fault memory, if necessary, repair any faults and then clear fault memory → Chapter, Reading and clearing fault memory.
If no sender fault is detected:
  A23-0036
–  Connect adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31- to control unit wiring harness. The engine control unit remains disconnected.
  N01-0369
–  Check wiring between 121-pin adapter cable -V.A.G 1598/31- and 3-pin connector for open circuit according to current flow diagram. Contact 1 + socket 102 Contact 2 + socket 110 Contact 3 + socket 86
Cable resistance: max. 1.5 Ω.
–  Check cables at 3-fold connector for short circuit to one another according to current flow diagram.
Specification: ∞ Ω.
If no fault in lines is detected:
–  Renew engine control unit → Chapter.
