Checking left-hand balance
Turn steering wheel to left and repeat measurement in same way as described for the right-hand side.
Results
Torque should be between 3.5-4.5 N-m (31-40 in.lbs.) and may have a maximum deviation of 1 N-m (9 in. lbs.) between right and left locks. If the
deviation is too large, the steering gear must be repaired or replaced.
Checking pump pressure
The pressure gauge should be on the right-hand side.
Start engine and check hydraulic pump pressure in left-hand lock position
Turn steering wheel to the left and hold it in the full lock position for max. 10 seconds. Check pressure gauge. Specified pressure:
7.6-8.3 MPa (1081-1180 psi).
NOTE:
Vehicles manufactured from Week 9 1986 (end of February): hydraulic pressure = 9.31-10.0 MPa (1324-1422 psi).
Check pump pressure in right hand lock position.
Turn steering wheel to right-hand lock position and check the pressure gauge.
