About the 850
The 850, made from 1991 to 1997, marked a big change for Volvo: a transverse five-cylinder engine driving the front wheels, a Delta-link rear axle and a side impact protection system. It was designed by Jan Wilsgaard, and an estate joined the saloon in 1993. The S70 and V70 replaced it.
