About the 900 Series
The 900 Series replaced the 700 Series from 1990 and was sold until 1998. The 960 arrived in 1991 with a new family of modular engines, and late in its life the 960 was renamed the S90 and V90. The 940 and 960 were Volvo's last rear-wheel-drive cars until 2023.
What these manuals cover
- 940 (1991–1994): the 2.3-litre four in SOHC, 16-valve DOHC and turbo form.
- 960 (1993): the 3.0-litre straight-six.
Tip: the 940's 2.3-litre B230 fours are the same engines as in the 740.
