Warning! The use of protective equipment such as safety goggles is recommended.
Procedures for preventing electronic component damage while welding:
1. To avoid closed circuits, remove the negative battery lead.
2. To avoid ground potentials for different control units, place the welding ground lead as close as possible to the welding spot.
3. If welding is to place close to any control unit, one should remove the unit just to avoid the risk for heat damage.
A new version of the rear fender for the 945 and 965 models is being introduced into production from the following chassis nos:
This new version does not have pop rivets and holes for the trim moulding in the C and D-pillars. Only the new version of the rear fender will be stocked
as a replacement part.
A. POP-RIVETED CLIP MOUNTINGS
To adapt the new version of the rear fenders to older cars, 4 holes must be drilled in the C-pillar and 3 holes in the 0-pillar.
7 pop rivets must be installed in the lower edge of the window opening in the rear fender.

B. WELDED CLIP MOUNTINGS
As an alternative to pop-riveted trim moulding clips and mountings at the lower edge of the rear fender, a mounting can be welded using a stud gun from
MAC Tools, or a Spiznagel gun.
By using this method, corrosion damage is minimized since there is no need to drill holes for pop-rivets in the body.
Welded mountings are available from body shop supply outlets. They are also available from VCNA, P/N 948933-7 (quantity pack 100).
