Brake Rotor/Disc: Description and Operation
CONDITION
The condition of the brake discs is critical to braking performance. Factors such as runout, corrosion and variations in thickness will cause
vibrations and pulling. For this reason, the discs should always be inspected when replacing the pads.
DESCRIPTION
Each brake disc is made of cast iron. The disc is integral with the hub in the earlier version, but is a separate component in the later version. A
splash shield is used to help keep the disc clean. The brake caliper is mounted on the wheel spindle.
