REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE
Master Cylinder, Replacement/Reconditioning
Applies to cars to 1991 inclusive with triangular split braking systems and without ABS.
The master cylinder must be replaced as a unit in the case of cars with ABS and..other models from 1992 on.
Note: The brake pedal must not be operated when the master cylinder is removed since the resulting abnormal position of the brake servo
components may cause damage.
P1. Removal
Place rags under master cylinder to protect paint work from fluid spillage.
Disconnect brake pipes and undo master cylinder mounting nuts. Use 7 mm socket and extension rod.
If car is equipped with hydraulic clutch: Disconnect clutch hose from fluid reservoir.
Secure hose in suitable position.
Block clutch connection opening in fluid reservoir.
Remove master cylinder.
P2. Separate reservoir from cylinder
Drain reservoir of fluid and remove seals
P3. Remove circlip. Withdraw piston and return spring from cylinder
