Replacement of condenser/pressure pipe in A/C system
When replacing the condenser/pressure pipes in the A/C system on cars produced before March 1993, the connections may be difficult to loosen.
Cars produced after March 1993 are equipped with a new type of "block fitting" in which the pipes are tightened by means of a bolt rather than a
clamping nut.
To help ensure that the earlier type of connection remains serviceable, apply rust inhibitor (thin viscosity) around the outside of the nut and pipe, and in
the telltale hole in the nut.
Procedure, 700/900 up to M/Y -1991 Install and tighten pressure pipe connections under radiator:
-
Tighten inlet and outlet connections to:
Up to M/Y -91
inlet
25 N-m (18 ft.lbs.)
outlet
20 N-m (15 ft.lbs.)
Fill system with specified amount of refrigerant.
Carry out leak test.
Test A/C operation.
Apply rust inhibitor.
