Standby Power Supply: Description and Operation
Crash Sensor And Standby Power Unit
This unit consists of a voltage converter and capacitor which stores sufficient energy to operate system even if the battery fails. This may occur, for
example, if a lead is pinched or if the battery is damaged in a collision.
Energy is stored only for about a second after the power supply has failed and is sufficient to trigger the gas generator in the event of a collision.
Although a gradually decaying voltage may be present for some time more, this will not be sufficient for operation.
When the battery has been disconnected or the ignition has been switched Off, the gas generator may be triggered only by applying a voltage source
(battery, self-powered test instrument or similar device).
