Resealing of differential cover on cars with live rear axles
A new differential cover has been introduced on 1992 200/700-900s with a live rear axle. The new cover is identified with the number 1023668
embossed on the cover, as illustrated. The rear axle drain plug is no longer used.
The oil is now drained through the lowermost bolt hole. Liquid sealing compound, p/n 1161059-9, is used to seal the cover to the rear axle housing.
Note:
It is extremely important that liquid sealing compound be used when replacing or resealing the cover.
Do not use a paper gasket (as with the earlier cover). This could cause incorrect clearance between the sensor probe and toothed wheel, causing incorrect
vehicle speed and ABS signals.
