Spicer Universal Joint Replacement
1. Remove the propeller shaft. Use tool P/N 5244. Identify the position of the propeller shaft in relation to the flanges. Disconnect the propeller shaft
from the flanges. Disconnect the center bearing and remove the propeller shaft from the vehicle. Clean off dirt from snap rings on the damaged
spider.
2. Remove the snap rings. If the snap rings are difficult to remove, tap them with a punch and apply rust oil before using snap ring pliers.
3. Remove the bearing caps.

Lightly clamp the propeller shaft in a vice and adjust its position so that the yoke rests on the jaws.

Using a plastic mallet or copper hammer, tap the coupling flange as near as possible to the bearing cups until the cups protrude by 3-4 mm
(0.12-0.16 in).
CAUTION: Do not tap the propeller shaft tube.
4. Withdraw the bearing cups with the aid of the vice.

Support the propeller shaft on a hammer handle, for example, and clamp the bearing cup in the vice.

Carefully pry out the bearing cups by pressing lightly on the propeller shaft.
5. Clean the bearing cup seats in the propeller shaft and the coupling flange
