Clutch

Movements of the clutch pedal are transferred to the clutch via a hydraulic system, making it easy to use and helping to prevent engine noise and vibration reaching the passenger compartment.
The clutch hub (1) is chromium-plated and the input shaft (2) phosphatised, minimising friction and eliminating the need to lubricate these components.
As the transmission shaft is of a single piece and journalled in the transmission endplates at either end, there is no support bearing on the flywheel. This makes removing and installing the transmission easier.
The throwout (release) bearing (3) sleeve is plastic and requires no lubrication. This means the entire system - from the clutch pedal to the throwout (release) bearing - is maintenance-free.
The clutch pedal is spring-assisted (4) to make gear changing easier.
- When the clutch pedal is in the upper position the spring expands, pressing the pedal upward.
- When the clutch pedal is pressed down resistance from the clutch is minimal and the spring is compressed by the pedals until it reaches its expansion point. The spring then expands and turns upwards and helps push the pedal down, helping make the clutch action light and easy.
The clutch pedal requires no lubrication. All joints in the pedal system are of the low friction type. The hydraulically assisted clutch requires no preventative maintenance.
