Remove the boot by turning the circlip 1/4 turn and pulling the boot downwards.

Remove the gear selector knob by jerking it straight up by hand. A strong jerk is required.

Note:  The knob cannot be reused.

Installing gear selector knob

Install the new gear selector lever knob by working and pressing it into position

-

Check that the knob has engaged by jerking it straight upwards

Check that the boot is positioned above the circlip

-

Secure the circlip to the gear selector knob by sliding the circlip straight upwards

-

Check the that the circlip is fully engaged.

the gear selector knob according to Replacing gear selector knob

the center console according to Transmission control module (TCM) diagnostic functions. 

Pull out the pawl (1) with round-nosed pliers. 
Remove the push rod and spring (4). If necessary, use a thin, bent welding rod to lift up the spring.
