Steering gear, replacing

Preparation

Set the steering wheel to the "straight ahead" position. Remove the key so that the steering wheel lock engages.
Remove the battery lead. See Battery, disconnecting See: Starting and Charging/Battery/Service and Repair/Procedures/Battery, Disconnecting.
Install the lock grip pliers on the feeder hose and the return hose for the power steering pump.

Removing the screw on the lower steering shaft

Hint: If the access to the screw for the steering shaft joint mounting in the steering gear is very limited, set up the tool as illustrated.
