Removing

Note:

This sequence of operations is described for a petrol engine with turbocharger. Procedure may differ depending on engine.

  • ‒ Dissipate vacuum in brake servo by pressing brake pedal several times.
  • ‒ Remove brake master cylinder .
  • ‒ Pull vacuum pipe out of brake servo.

  • ‒ → If necessary, detach noise insulation -arrows-.

  • ‒ Unscrew right drive shaft from flange shaft/gearbox.
  • ‒ → Unscrew -arrows- pendulum support.
  • ‒ Remove front exhaust pipe.

=> Engine, Mechanics; Repair Group 26

 
A47-0046
  • ‒ → If necessary for access to bolted joints of engine support, unscrew coolant expansion tank -arrows- (leave hoses connected).
 
A13-0180
  • ‒ → Position support bar 10-222 A in front of gas-filled strut on wing mounting flange with spindles at front.
  • ‒ Screw holder 3180 to right lifting eye and engage at spring hook of spindle on right.
  • ‒ Engage spring hook of spindle at left lifting eye.
  • ‒ Raise engine slightly and evenly with both spindles.

Note:

Mark installation position of engine/gearbox supports.

  • ‒ → Unscrew engine support from engine console -arrows-.

  • ‒ → Unscrew gearbox support from gearbox console -arrows-.
  • ‒ Lower engine/gearbox by adjusting spindles at support bar 10-222 A.
    • -Engine end: approx. 60 mm
    • -Gearbox end: approx. 90 mm

Note:

When lowering, take care not to strain coolant hoses to heating system heat exchanger.

 
A47-0032
  • ‒ Disconnect brake pedal from brake servo => Page 46-73.
  • ‒ → Unscrew nuts -arrows-.
  • ‒ Detach brake servo.
  • ‒ Removal of brake servo involves second mechanic pulling engine in direction of travel.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

  • ‒ Adjust engine mountings.

=> Engine, Mechanics; Repair Group 10

  • ‒ Screw right drive shaft to flange shaft/gearbox.

=> Running Gear, Front-wheel Drive and Four-wheel Drive; Repair Group 40

  • ‒ Screw on pendulum support.

=> Engine, Mechanics; Repair Group 10

  • ‒ Install front exhaust pipe.

=> Engine, Mechanics; Repair Group 26

  • ‒ Fit brake pedal at brake servo .
  • ‒ Fit brake master cylinder => Page 47-82.
  • ‒ Bleed brake system: ABS/ESP Mark 20 .
  • ‒ Bleed clutch hydraulics.

=> Manual Gearbox; Repair Group 30

  • ‒ On vehicles with ABS/ESP, start basic setting for brake pressure sender(s).

=> Running Gear, Self-diagnosis; Repair Group 01

  • ‒ On vehicles with ABS/ESP Mark 60, perform ESP drive test.

=> Running Gear, Self-diagnosis; Repair Group 01
