Adapting kickdown function
Adapting kickdown function
Kick-down function adaption must be performed on vehicles with automatic gearbox if the accelerator pedal position sender or engine control unit is replaced.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle diagnosis and service information system -VAS 5052-
Procedure
  Note
t  No fault stored in fault memory; interrogating fault memory → Chapter and → Chapter
t  Engine stopped, ignition switched on
–  Connect up the vehicle diagnostic and service information system -VAS 5052- and select the engine electronics control unit. When doing this, the ignition must be switched on.
–  Select the function “Start basic setting”.
–  Select “Display group number 063”.
  Note
You will then be given the prompt “Operate kickdown”.
–  Fully depress accelerator pedal beyond kickdown point and keep it pressed.
  Note
During kick-down point adaption the display on the tester shows “Kick-down ADP. running”. Following successful kick-down point adaption, the display on the tester will show “Kick-down ADP. OK”.
–  Check the readout in display zone 4:

Note   If display shows “ERROR”: Interrogate fault memory → Chapter.

  Note
t  The abbreviation “ADP” in display zone 4 stands for Adaption.
t  “ERROR” may be displayed for example if the accelerator pedal is not floored immediately after the tester prompt or if the accelerator pedal is released whilst the adaption process is still running and has not yet been completed. In both cases, exit from “Basic setting” mode and repeat the adaption process.
If the reading matches the specification “ADP OK”:
–  Test is concluded.
