Removing

Note:

→ When replacing left transverse link on a vehicle with automatic headlight range control, mark installation position of clip -7- at transverse link -6- and transfer mark to new transverse link.

  • ‒ Detach connecting link for headlight range control unit at left transverse link .

  • ‒ → Unscrew drive shaft -1- from flange shaft -2- of final drive.
  • ‒ Remove spring => Page 42-58.

  • ‒ → Screw out bolt -1- for upper transverse link -3- at wheel bearing housing.
  • ‒ Screw out bolt -2- for lower transverse link -4- at wheel bearing housing.
  •     5 -    Trailing arm

 
A42-0233
  • ‒ → Unscrew bolted joints -1- for upper/lower transverse link at subframe.
  • ‒ Detach transverse links.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

  • ‒ → Start by sliding upper transverse link -1- as far as possible horizontally and vertically into subframe -2-.
  • ‒ Align upper and lower ball joint for attachment to subframe to avoid damaging rubber bellows on inserting transverse links.

  • ‒ → Pull trailing arm slightly outwards to slide transverse link -1- over bearing.
Attention:
Take care not to damage rubber bellows of bearing.

  • ‒ → Heed installation direction of bolts -1-:
    • ‒ Bolt heads face in direction of travel -arrow-
  • ‒ Install spring => Page 42-62.
  • ‒ Install drive shaft => Page 42-131.
  • ‒ Install connecting link for headlight range control unit => Page 42-48.

    1)    90°corresponds to quarter turn

    2)    Replace bolts

Bolted joints with bonded rubber bushes must be tightened when vehicle is standing on its wheels.

Perform wheel alignment after installation.
