Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
t  Ring spanner insert -V.A.G 1331/3-
t  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system
Removing
  Note
t  Mark brake pads when removing them if they are to be reinstalled. Fit in same position when installing otherwise uneven braking will be caused.
t  It is recommended to apply the electronic parking brake again after driving long distances.
t  The clearance between brake disc and brake pad is adjusted automatically approx. every 1000 km, unless the EPB is operated while covering this distance.
–  With ignition switched off, connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- or -VAS 5052- to 16-pin diagnostic connector in vehicle.
   

  Note
t  Switch on ignition.
t  Parking brake released
t  Coding checked and rectified if necessary
t  Fault memory interrogated, indicated faults eliminated and fault memory erased.
–  Select function „053 - Parking brake“.
–  Select function „006 - Basic setting“.
   
Display on vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system:
t  The prompt to enter a display group appears in display zone -1-.
t  Display zone -2- shows a keypad.
–  Enter „007“ as „display group number“ via the keypad in display zone -2- and confirm entry with the „Q“ key. (resetting piston).
–  Press the green arrow button (bottom left) to exit from the input mask.
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Raise the vehicle.
–  Remove wheels.
–  Unclip brake hose and electrical wire from retainer on hub carrier.

–  Remove securing bolts from brake caliper housing, when doing this counter-hold on guide pins.
  Note
Do not apply tension on brake hose or electrical wiring.
–  Detach brake caliper.
Do not leave brake caliper hanging from brake hose but secure it to bodywork using a suitable cable tie or wire. Take care that brake hose is not damaged by weight of brake components.
  WARNING
Do not apply brake when brake caliper is removed.
–  Remove brake pads.
–  Remove pad retainers.
–  Press piston back.

Use piston resetting appliance T10145.
Make sure that the brake piston remains straight when it is pressed back.
Installing
Use only methylated spirits to clean the brake caliper housing.

–  Insert pad retaining springs.
–  If fitted, pull protective foil off pad backplates.

–  Fit brake pads.
  N46-0345
–  Ensure that the brake pads are located correctly in the pad retainers -arrows-.
  Note
The brake pads must be seated between the two retaining lugs on the pad retainer to help maintain the required clearance between pads and disc.
–  Install brake caliper.
  Note
The repair kit includes new self-locking bolts which must be installed in all cases.

–  Secure brake caliper with new self-locking bolts.
Use torque wrench -V.A.G 1331- with ring spanner insert -V.A.G 1331/3- to tighten bolts.
–  Clip brake hose and electrical wire into retainer on hub carrier.
  Note
Make sure that brake hose is properly clipped into retainer on hub carrier and securely seated. Otherwise, there is a risk that the brake hose will not remain in the retainer.
–  Fit wheels.
–  Lower vehicle.
Tightening torque for wheel bolts → Rep. gr.44
–  Check brake fluid level and top up if necessary.
–  Switch on ignition.

Display on vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system:
t  The prompt to enter a display group appears in display zone -1-.
t  Display zone -2- shows a keypad.
–  Enter „006“ as „display group number“ via the keypad in display zone -2- and confirm entry with the „Q“ key. (Moving piston to original position).
–  Press the green arrow button (bottom left) to exit from the input mask.
  Note
Fault memory interrogated, indicated faults eliminated and fault memory erased.
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- or -VAS 5052- from 16-pin diagnostic socket in vehicle.
