Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  1. Remove the upper intake manifold.
    For additional information, refer to Upper Intake Manifold in this section.

  1. Remove the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) actuator bolts.

  1. Detach the cable bridge and position the IMRC actuator aside.

  1. Disconnect the left-hand spark plug wires and bracket.

  1. Disconnect the radiator coolant expansion tank hose and wiring harness.
    • Disconnect the coolant expansion tank breather hose bracket from the stud on the left-hand valve cover.
    • Disconnect the wiring harness from the left-hand valve cover.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Remove the bolts in the indicated sequence.
    Remove the valve cover and discard the gasket.

Installation

NOTE:
NOTE:Use a new gasket in the valve cover and install the valve cover within six minutes of applying the sealant. Before installing the valve cover, apply a drop of sealant approximately 8 mm in diameter to the joint areas shown in the diagram.

  1. Prior to installation, clean the valve cover sealing surfaces using a shop town and metal surface cleaner.
  1. Use a new gasket on the valve cover.
    • Use silicon gasket and sealant

  1. Tighten the valve cover bolts in the indicated sequence.

  1. Install the radiator coolant expansion tank hose.
    • Install the wiring harness onto the left-hand valve cover.
    • Push the coolant expansion tank breather hose bracket onto the left-hand valve cover stud.

  1. Connect spark plugs wires and bracket.

  1. Position the IMRC actuator and install the bridge.

  1. Install the IMRC actuator bolts.
  1. Install the upper intake manifold.
    For additional information, refer to Upper Intake Manifold in this section.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
    Connect the battery ground cable.
