Remove the valve cover. For additional information, refer to: Valve Cover (303-01F Engine - 1.8L Duratorq-TDCi (Lynx) Diesel, In-vehicle Repair). | | -
Install the camshaft bearing cap retaining nuts. | | -
- Rotate the crankshaft until the cam pair of the cylinder to be adjusted are pointing upwards.
- Check the valve clearance and note the values.
- If the values of one or more adjustment shims are outside the tolerance range, renew the adjustment shim as described in the following step.

NOTE:Rotate the crankshaft by a further 90 degrees. NOTE:The piston of the cylinder to be adjusted must not be at TDC. Install the adjustment shim. - Using the special tool, push down the two valve tappets at the same time.
- Using the special tool, remove the adjustment shim.
- Note the thickness of the adjustment shim, marked on the underside of the shim.
- Install the new adjustment shim to obtain the correct valve clearance.
