Removal

  1. Remove the camshaft.
    For additional information, refer to Camshaft in this section.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Keep the valve tappets in order for installation.
    Remove the valve tappets.

  1. Install the special tools.
  1. Turn the engine, until the piston of the cylinder to be worked on is at top dead center (TDC).

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not turn engine once valve collets have been removed.
    Using the special tools, remove the valve collets.
  1. Remove the valve springs.

  1. Using the special tool, remove the valve seals.
    • Discard the valve seals.

Installation

  1. Install a valve stem mouting sleeve over the valve collet groove (valve shown removed for clarity).
  1. Coat the valve seals with clean engine oil.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new valve seals.
    Using the special tool, install the valve seal.
  1. Turn the engine, until the piston of the cylinder to be worked on is at top dead center (TDC).
  1. Remove the valve stem mouting sleeve.
  1. Install the valve springs.

  1. Using the special tools, install the valve collets.
    • Position a brass drift on the valve spring seat and gently strike it with a hammer.
  1. Remove the special tools.
  1. Coat the valve tappets with clean engine oil.
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The valve tappets must be installed in their original locations.
    Install the valve tappets.
  1. Install the camshaft.
