Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Detach the exhaust center heat shield from the underside of the floor panel.
    • Detach the catalyst monitor sensor wiring harness.
    • Push the center heat shield backwards.

  1. Detach the exhaust front heat shield from the underside of the floor panel.
    • Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
    • Remove the cable bracket.
    • Push the front heat shield back between the exhaust pipe and the exhaust rear heat shield.

  1. Remove the gearshift linkage retaining nuts.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Remove the gearshift lever knob.

  1. Detach the trim panel from the floor console.

  1. Remove the floor console trim panel and the gearshift lever boot.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Remove the insulation pad.

  1. Detach the gearshift cables from the gearshift linkage.
    1. Pull the locking mechanism backwards and turn it counterclockwise.
    1. Compress the clips and detach the cables from the abutment collar.

  1. Remove the gearshift linkage.

Installation
  1. Install the gearshift linkage.

  1. Attach the gearshift cables to the gearshift linkage.
  1. Adjust the gearshift linkage. For additional information, refer to Section  308-00 Manual Transmission/Transaxle and Clutch - General Information.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Install the gearshift linkage retaining nuts.

  1. Install the exhaust front heat shield.
    • Install the cable bracket.
    • Connect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.

  1. Install the exhaust center heat shield.
    • Attach the catalyst monitor sensor wiring harness.
  1. Lower the vehicle.
