Global positioning system (GPS) antenna

GPS antenna

The GPS antenna is located on the driver side of the instrument panel. The GPS antenna and GPS antenna cable are of a one piece construction and can be serviced as a complete unit only.

Navigation system display module

The navigation system display module is connected to the Ford wiring harness with a separate wiring harness. If the navigation system is fitted with a cellular phone system there are additional wiring harnesses fitted.

The navigation system display module contains an electronic compass which functions with the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) to allow the navigation system to operate when there are not enough or no satellites signals received. The navigation may only operate correctly when the vehicle is driven where there are no large buildings/obstructions or metal objects in the immediate vicinity.

The navigation system also receives input signals from the following components:

  • AM/FM antenna cable
  • The reversing lamp switch
  • Powertrain control module (PCM)

Reversing lamp switch

The reversing lamp switch input allows the navigation system display module to determine the vehicle's forward or rearward direction.

PCM

The PCM provides information to the navigation system display module to allow the system to determine distance covered. The input is generated from the VSS.
