Remove the reverse clutch pressure plate retaining ring. | | -
Remove the reverse clutch plates. - Remove the pressure plate.
- Remove the friction plates.
- Remove the steel plates.
- Inspect for damage or wear.
| | -
WARNING:Use caution when releasing the tool pressure on the clutch piston return springs. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. CAUTION:Do not fully compress the reverse clutch return spring. Remove the reverse clutch spring retaining ring. - Using the special tool, compress the reverse clutch return spring.
| | -
Remove the reverse clutch return spring assembly. | | -
Remove and discard the reverse clutch piston assembly with its integral seals. | | -
WARNING:Wear protective safety goggles when cleaning components with compressed air. NOTE:Do not clean the clutch plates in a vapor degreaser or with any other type of detergent solution. Clean all parts thoroughly in a clean solvent and blow dry with moisture-free regulated compressed air. - Clean the friction plates with a lint-free cloth.
| | -
Inspect the parts for damage and wear: - Inspect the clutch plates.
- Inspect the piston and seals.
- Inspect the check ball in drum.
- Inspect the drum outer surface band contact area.
| Assembly | -
Using the special tool, install the new reverse clutch piston assembly with integral seals. | | -
Install the reverse clutch return spring assembly. | | -
WARNING:Use caution when releasing the tool pressure on the clutch piston return springs. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. CAUTION:Do not fully compress the reverse clutch return spring. Install the reverse clutch retaining ring. - Using the special tool, compress the reverse clutch return spring.
| | -
Install the reverse clutches. - Install the steel plates.
- Install the friction plates.
- Install the pressure plate.
| | -
NOTE:The retaining rings are available in various thicknesses. Install the reverse clutch pressure plate retaining ring (selective fit). | | -
Measure the clearance between the reverse clutch pressure plate and the reverse clutch pressure plate retaining ring with a feeler gauge. - Repeat the measurement on the opposite side.
- Average the two measurements to calculate the clearance.
- If the clearance is not within the specifications, select and install the correct thickness retaining ring to obtain the specified clearance.
