Engine - 2.2L Duratorq-TDCi (Puma) Diesel - Engine Transit 2006.5 (04/2006-)
Description and Operation

General View

General

  • The 2.2L Duratorq-TDCi (Puma) Diesel is available in three different power output versions: 63 kW (85 PS), 81 kW (110 PS) and 96 kW (130 PS).
  • The 63 kW (85 PS) version is the entry-level version for the front wheel drive vehicles. A turbocharger with a wastegate is used.
  • The 81 kW (110 PS) version additionally has oil spray nozzles for cooling the piston crowns.
  • The 96 kW (130 PS) version has a turbocharger with electrically adjustable guide vane geometry as well as fuel injectors with an increased flow rate.

Engine identification code

Engine code and engine serial number

The engine code (4 positions) and the engine serial number (consisting of two letters for year and month and five digits which produce the serial number) are located on the timing chain housing in line with the fuel injection pump.

If an exchange engine or cylinder block is installed, the vehicle identified number (VIN) number is to be stamped at the position shown.

Fuel injection system

The 2.2L engines are equipped with the Denso common rail fuel system.

This provides high engine power and low fuel consumption.

High-pressure pump

The high-pressure pump is flanged onto the left of the cylinder head and is driven by the intake camshaft.

Flange for high-pressure pump

An appropriate coupling is attached to both the intake camshaft and the high-pressure pump for this purpose.
For additional information, refer to: Fuel Pump (303-04B Fuel Charging and Controls - 2.2L Duratorq-TDCi (Puma) Diesel, Removal and Installation).

Fuel injectors

The fuel injectors are mounted by means of a bracket with a central screw that fastens two fuel injectors.

It should be noted that if one of the two fuel injectors is removed, the second fuel injector attached using the common bracket must be resealed.

The associated high-pressure lines must also be replaced.
For additional information, refer to: Fuel Injectors (303-04B Fuel Charging and Controls - 2.2L Duratorq-TDCi (Puma) Diesel, Removal and Installation).

Valve train

The timing chain drives the two camshafts.
