Check the cooling system for leaks
   
Check the cooling system for leaks
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Coolant tester -VAG 1274B-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Adapter -VAG 1274/8-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Adapter -VAG 1274/9-, see equivalent → Anchor

Test condition
l  Engine warm.
Checking sequence
  WARNING
Steam may be released when opening the expansion tank. Cover the cap with a cloth and open carefully.
–  Open the Sealing plug of the coolant expansion tank.
   
–  Fit the cooling tester -VAG 1274B- with the adapter -VAG 1274/8- onto the expansion tank.
–  Use the hand pump on the tester to create an overpressure of approx. 1.0 bar.
  WARNING
Risk of burn injuries! Before removing the cooling system tester -V.A.G 1274 B- from the connecting hose or from the connecting element -V.A.G 1274 B/1-, the pressure must be released. For this purpose, press the pressure relief valve cooling system tester -V.A.G 1274 B- until the pressure gauge equipment displays the value »0«.
If the pressure drops:
–  Find the leaks and repair them.
Check pressure relief valve in filler cap.
–  Screw the cap into the adapter -V.A.G 1274/9-.
–  Press the connecting piece -V.A.G 1274 B/1- into the Cooling system tester adaptor -V.A.G 1274/9-.

–  Connect the connecting piece -V.A.G 1274 B/1- together with the connecting hose of the device to the cooling system tester -V.A.G 1274 B-
–  Generate a pressure of 1.6 bar max using the manual pump of the cooling system tester.
The pressure relief valve must not open.
If the release valve opens prematurely:
–  Replace the cap.
–  Increase the pressure to more than 1.6 bar.
The pressure release valve should open.
If the release valve does not open:
–  Replace the cap.
