Seal Ring – Crankshaft, Replace
Remove
1. |
Remove lower engine compartment cover
|
2. |
Remove ribbed V-belt
Note: Mark running
direction of ribbed V-belt
• |
Relieve tension of ribbed V-belt using ribbed V-belt
tensioner
|
• |
Remove from tension roller and place aside
|
|
3. |
Loosen ribbed V-belt pulley crankshaft (1)
Note: Second installer
required
• |
Unscrew bolt
– |
Up to MY 2003 and engine number 17K44148: Counterhold using
KM-977-1 together with KM-956-1
|
– |
From MY 2003 and engine number 17K44149: Counterhold using
KM-6619 together with KM-956-1
|
|
|
4. |
Lever seal ring (3) out of timing case with suitable tool.
Note: Ensure that
sealing surfaces are not damaged during removal of seal ring.
|
|
|
Install
5. |
Clean sealing surfaces and remove gasket remnants.
|
6. |
Place seal ring on protective sleeve KM-935-1 (1) and position in timing case without
tilting.
|
7. |
Apply seal ring to protective sleeve using KM-935-2 (2), and press in seal ring until it lies
flush in the timing case

Use the fastening bolt of the torsional vibration damper
|
|
|
|
8. |
Fasten ribbed V-belt pulley crankshaft
• |
Tighten new bolt 150 Nm +45° +
15°
Note: Second installer
required

KM-977-1 together with KM-956-1
|

From MY 2003 and engine number 17K44149: Counterhold using
KM-6619 together with KM-956-1
|

9. |
Insert ribbed V-belt
Note: Ensure direction
of travel and installation position of ribbed V-belt is correct
• |
Apply tension to ribbed V-belt tensioner
|
• |
Place ribbed V-belt on tension roller
|
|
10. |
Attach lower engine compartment cover
|
