Timing Case, Remove and Install > < Duplex Chain Tensioner, Remove and Install

Seal Ring – Timing Case, Replace / Front Seal Ring – Crankshaft, Replace

  Remove

1.   Remove lower engine compartment cover LUREF_1.gif
2.   Remove ribbed V-belt
Note:   Mark running direction of ribbed V-belt
•   Relieve tension of ribbed V-belt using ribbed V-belt tensioner
•   Remove from tension roller and place aside
3.   Loosen ribbed V-belt pulley crankshaft (1)
Note:   Second installer required
•   Unscrew bolt
Up to MY 2003 and engine number 17K44148: Counterhold using KM-977-1 together with KM-956-1
From MY 2003 and engine number 17K44149: Counterhold using KM-6619 together with KM-956-1
4.   Lever seal ring (3) out of timing case with suitable tool.
Note:   Ensure that sealing surfaces are not damaged during removal of seal ring.

  Install

5.   Clean sealing surfaces and remove gasket remnants.
6.   Place seal ring on protective sleeve KM-935-1 (1) and position in timing case without tilting.
7.   Apply seal ring to protective sleeve using KM-935-2 (2), and press in seal ring until it lies flush in the timing case
•   Use the fastening bolt of the torsional vibration damper

8.   Fasten ribbed V-belt pulley crankshaft
•   Tighten new bolt 150 Nm +45° + 15°
Note:   Second installer required
Up to MY 2003 and engine number 17K44148: Counterhold using KM-977-1 together with KM-956-1
From MY 2003 and engine number 17K44149: Counterhold using KM-6619 together with KM-956-1
9.   Insert ribbed V-belt
Note:   Ensure direction of travel and installation position of ribbed V-belt is correct
•   Apply tension to ribbed V-belt tensioner
•   Place ribbed V-belt on tension roller
10.   Attach lower engine compartment cover LUREF_1.gif
