Drive Shaft Assembly with Multi-plate Clutch, Disassemble and Assemble (AF13-II)

  Disassemble

Remove drive shaft assembly with multi-plate clutch assembly C2- see operation "Drive Shaft Assembly with Multi-plate Clutch C2, Remove and Install (AF 13-II)".

Clamp drive shaft assembly with multi-plate clutch C2 in vice. Remove retaining ring (1) from multi-plate clutch with C2 using suitable screwdriver.

Remove flange (2) and multi-plate clutch assembly C2 (4) from drive shaft (3).

Remove thrust washer (5) and axial needle bearing (6) from drive shaft.

Remove slotted seal ring (7).

  Remove

Remove retaining ring (1) from multi-plate clutch with C2 with suitable screwdriver and if necessary remove uppermost lining plate in order to access retaining ring.

Remove lining plates (2) and steel plates (3).

Install Clutch Tensioner KM-J-23078-A (5) and clamp nut for tensioning in vice. Turn housing for multi-plate clutch C2 with Clutch Tensioner KM-J-23078-A (compressing release springs) until retaining ring is free. Remove retaining ring with KM-396 (4).

Release Clutch Tensioner KM-J-23078-A and remove.

Remove return spring assembly (6).

  Install

Insert housing with piston for multi-plate clutch C2 (1), as shown, in fluid pump.

Caution

When inserting in fluid pump, ensure that the slotted seal rings (x 2) are not damaged.

  Remove

Piston for multi-plate clutch C2 (2) – blow in low pressure compressed air. Replace piston seal rings (3 and 4) – coat with transmission fluid before installation.

  Inspect

Lock ball of piston for multi-plate clutch C2 – shake piston (5) to check whether lock ball is movable. Check return spring assembly for damage, replace if necessary. Check sliding surfaces of steel and lining plates for damage and wear, replace if necessary. New lining plates must be laid in transmission fluid for at least two hours before installation.

  Assemble

Insert piston C2 (1) with new O-rings in housing for multi-plate clutch C2 – do not damage O-rings.

Place return springs assembly on piston C2 – install new retaining ring. Attach KM-J-23078-A (3) and compress return springs – insert retaining ring with KM-396 (2). Release KM-J-23078-A and remove.

Alternately steel plate (5) and lining plate (4) on piston C2- number of steel and lining plates see "Technical Data", section "Parts List".

Insert new retaining ring (6) with screwdriver. Ensure proper fit.

  Install

Attach output shaft (2), friction washer (1) and slotted seal ring (3) to drive shaft.

Assemble multi-plate clutch C2 (6), drive shaft (5) and flange (4) as shown.

Assemble new retaining ring (7) with screwdriver.

Insert drive shaft assembly with multi-plate clutch C 2 into fluid pump – do not damage seal rings.

  Inspect

Lift piston C2 and thus check function. Blow compressed air into bore on fluid pump (arrow).

  Remove

Remove drive shaft assembly with multi-plate clutch C2 from fluid pump.

  Install

Insert drive shaft assembly with multi-plate clutch assembly C2- see operation "Drive Shaft Assembly with Multi-plate Clutch C2, Remove and Install (AF 13-II)".
