Shift Linkage, Remove and Install
(F13/F17F17+/F18/F35)
 Remove
If present: Remove lower engine compartment cover – see
operation "Lower Engine Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in
group "A".

Detach clamp bolt (1) of shift guide clamp. Pull gearshift lever
to 4th gear position and detach shift guide clamp from shifter rod.
Loosen and detach bellows from separation surface.
Remove centre console – see operation "Centre Console,
Remove and Install" in group "C".
Detach wiring trough from retainers.
Remove fastening nuts (arrows) – illustration L 2268 shows
gearshift lever without folding cover. Remove shift control housing
with shifter rod.

Disassemble
|
Release clamp (1) in direction of arrow and pull out pin.
Pull out gearshift lever (2) upward.
Pull shifter rod (3) from bearing bushing in direction of
arrow.
Press out bushing (5) together with bearing bushing (4) from
shift control housing in direction of arrow.
 Clean
Clean all parts for the shift actuation of adhering foreign
bodies and lubricants and lubricate with silicone grease when
installing.

Remove
|
Press bearing bushing (1) out of bushing (2).
|
|
Install
Press bearing bushing in bushing.
Press bushing and bearing bushing into shift control housing.
Press bushing into shift control housing from inside. Fill inner
grooves of bushing with silicone grease.
Insert shifter rod into bearing bushing. Lubricate gearshift
lever at ball with silicone grease and insert into guides. Press
pin into bore holes and press clamp (3) onto gearshift lever.
Insert shift control housing with shifter rod. Install shift
control housing on underbody – tightening torque 5 Nm / 3.7
lbf. ft.
Attach wiring trough to retainers.
Install
Install centre console – see operation "Centre Console,
Remove and Install" in group "C".
Slide untwisted bellows on shifter rod and insert in separation
surface. Slide shift guide clamp onto shifter rod – do not
tighten clamp bolt.
 Adjust
Adjust shift linkage - see operation "Shift Linkage, Adjust
(F13/F13+/F17/F17+/F18)" or "Shift Linkage, Adjust (F35)"
Install
Tighten clamp bolt for shift guide clamp – tightening
torque 12 Nm / 9 lbf. ft. + 180° to 225°.
If present: Install lower engine compartment cover – see
operation "Lower Engine Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in
group "A".
