Parking Brake Cable – Centre, Remove and Install (Vehicle with Disc Brakes)

  Remove

1.   Remove cover of diagnostic connection 2.   Unclip bellows (2) for parking brake lever out of central console and draw up to hand grip (1) 3.   Slacken parking brake cable at parking brake lever by turning back the adjusting nut (3).

4.   Lower exhaust system •   Secure exhaust system with strap •   Detach 2x rubber mounts

5.   Detach heat shield •   Unscrew 7x nut (1) •   Detach rubber mounts (2) for centre exhaust silencer •   Lower heat shield 6.   Twist handbrake cable front (3) 90° and remove 7.   Remove handbrake cable from brackets (4)

8.   Detach 2x handbrake cable from brake calliper •   Push down 2x brake calliper actuation lever (1) with screwdriver and attach handbrake cable. •   Detach 2x retaining plate (2) •   Remove 2x handbrake cable

  Install

9.   Attach parking brake cable in retainers on rear axle, rear axle bracket and to retainers (1) on fuel tank. 10.   Hook front of parking brake cable (2) into parking brake cable compensator and twist by 90° - Note:   Ensure that the T-piece at the front end of the parking brake cable is seated correctly in the parking brake cable compensator (arrow). 11.   Push protective sleeve for front of parking brake cable (4) in the direction of the parking brake cable compensator until it passes over the bulge (3) on the parking brake cable 12.   Attach parking brake cable to brake calliper •   Insert parking brake cable into retainer •   Attach new retaining clip to parking brake cable •   Push down actuating lever for brake calliper with a screwdriver •   Hook parking brake cable into actuating lever for brake calliper 13.   Attach heat shield of central silencer (7) to vehicle underbody 2 Nm •   Screw in 7x nut 14.   Attach rubber mounts for central silencer (8) to vehicle underbody
