Centre Parking Brake Cable, Remove and Install (Vehicles with Drum Brakes)

  Remove

1.   Remove cover of diagnostic connection
2.   Unclip bellows (2) for parking brake lever out of central console and draw up to hand grip (1)
3.   Slacken parking brake cable at parking brake lever by turning back the adjusting nut (3).

4.   Remove rear wheels
5.   Unclip parking brake cable (2) at connector (1)
6.   Detach front exhaust pipe and central silencer
  • except for Z 20 LEL
  • Z 20 LEL
7.   Detach heat shield of central silencer from vehicle underbody
•   Unscrew 7x nut (3)
8.   Twist front parking brake cable (5) 90° and detach from parking brake cable compensator.
9.   Detach parking brake cable from rear axle retainers, rear axle bracket and fuel tank (6)

  Install

10.   Attach parking brake cable in retainers on rear axle, rear axle bracket and to retainers (1) on fuel tank.
11.   Hook front of parking brake cable (2) into parking brake cable compensator and twist by 90° -
Note:   Ensure that the T-piece at the front end of the parking brake cable is seated correctly in the parking brake cable compensator (arrow).
12.   Push protective sleeve for front of parking brake cable (4) in the direction of the parking brake cable compensator until it passes over the bulge (3) on the parking brake cable
13.   Clip parking brake cable in new connector.
14.   Attach heat shield of central silencer (7) to vehicle underbody 2 Nm
•   Screw in 7x nut
15.   Attach front exhaust pipe (5) and central silencer (6)
  • except for Z 20 LEL
  • Z 20 LEL

16.   Fit rear wheels 110 Nm
17.   Adjust parking brake lever path LUREF_1.gif
