Compression, Check (X 16 XEL without Secondary Air System, Y 16 XE, Z 16 XE, X 18 XE1, Z 18 XE, Z 18 XEL)  

Engine at operating temperature (oil temperature ≥ 80 ° C / 176 ° F).  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove engine cover from cylinder head cover.  

Detach wiring harness plug (2) from ignition module (3).   Detach ignition module from cylinder head cover or cylinder head and detach from spark plugs using KM-6009 (1).   Remove spark plugs with KM-194-E.   For X 16 XEL and X 18 XE1: Remove fuel pump relay - see operation "Fuel Pump Relay, Remove and Install (X 16 XEL)" or "Fuel Pump Relay, Remove and Install (X 18 XE1)".   Notice:  To open the throttle valve for Y 16 XE, Z 16 XE, Z 18 XE and Z 18 XEL, this must be activated using TECH2 - see corresponding Checking Procedure.

  Inspect   

Use compression recorder with rubber cone and measuring range up to 1750 kPa (17.5 bar).  

Actuate starter for approx. 4 seconds with throttle valve fully open - minimum engine speed 300 rpm.  

The pressure difference between the individual cylinders should not exceed 100 kPa (1 bar).  

  Install, Connect   

Install fuel pump relay - see operation "Fuel Pump Relay, Remove and Install (X 16 XEL)" or "Fuel Pump Relay, Remove and Install (X 18 XE1)".  

Install spark plugs with KM-194-E into cylinder head - tightening torque 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft.  

Connect ignition module to spark plugs and attach to cylinder head cover - tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.  

Connect wiring harness plug to ignition module.  

Install engine cover on cylinder head cover.
