  Note
Removal and installation are illustrated for the left side. The right side is analogous.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1783-
  W00-0990
Removing
–  Remove rear seat backrest → Chapter.
–  Remove trim for locking mechanism → Chapter.
–  Pull back cushion in area of locking mechanism -2- → Chapter.
–  Unscrew bolts -3- (4.5 Nm).
–  Remove locking mechanism -2- from rear seat backrest frame -1-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in reverse order.
