During braking the vehicle vibrates and the pedal surges

1CHECK ON SURGING

With the vehicle moving, press the brake pedal gently

With the vehicle moving and the brake pedal released, operate the handbrake partly

OK

Move onto step 2

Surging is only present if the handbrake is not pulled
  • If necessary, grind or replace the front discs

End of diagnosis

The surging persists with the handbrake pulled
  • If necessary, grind or replace the rear discs

End of diagnosis

2CHECK WHETHER SURGING PERSISTS

With the vehicle moving, press the brake pedal gently

With the vehicle moving and the brake pedal released, operate the handbrake partly

OK

Move onto step 3

The surging persists if the handbrake is not applied
  • Replace the front hubs

End of diagnosis

The surging persists with the handbrake applied
  • Replace the rear hubs

End of diagnosis

3CORRECT OPERATION CHECK

Test the vehicle before delivery to the customer, to check that the fault is no longer present

NOTE: The test is essential, as the braking system involves a safety feature of the car
