Checking closed Haldex coupling for function on vehicles with manual gearbox
Checking closed Haldex coupling for function on vehicles with manual gearbox
Test requirements:
t  Oil level of Haldex coupling OK
t  Checking oil level in Haldex coupling → Chapter.
t  Correct engine control unit and ABS control unit installed (check coding and control unit identification number).
–  Place vehicle on lifting platform.
  Caution
For safety reasons it is essential that the wheels do not touch the ground when the vehicle is on the lifting platform.
Carry out test with care to avoid damage.
–  Start engine.
–  Depress clutch pedal all the way, select 2nd gear and release clutch carefully.
All four wheels must turn.
–  Press clutch pedal once more.
–  Apply handbrake and release clutch carefully.
The engine should now stall.
l  Engine did stall:
The Haldex coupling is closed; function is OK.
l  Engine did not stall:
The Haldex coupling is open. Possible cause of fault:
t  Main pressure regulating valve sticking
t  Mechanical fault in Haldex coupling
t  Four-wheel drive control unit -J492- at rear final drive defective
