5 Series E34 525td (M51) TOUR
Take these measurements for all 6 pistons.
Calculate the mean value from the values obtained.
This mean value determines the thickness of cylinder-head seal.
Piston clearance: 0.54 - 0.76 mm
Install 2-hole seal.
Piston clearance: 0.76 - 0.99 mm
Install 3-hole seal.
Note:
If the piston clearance on one or more cylinders is more than
0.81 mm, the 3-hole seal must be installed (regardless of the
mean piston clearance).
Check that dowel sleeves are undamaged and correctly located.
Note:
Only on version with mounting block for fuel injection pump.
Clean gasket residue out of groove for rubber profile gasket.
At ends of groove, apply flexible sealing compound
3 Bond 1209, refer to BMW Parts Service.
Insert new rubber profile gasket in groove on mounting block for
fuel injection pump.
