INTRODUCTION - ENGINE

1.4 16v

4 cylinder in line 1368 cc engine, with TOHC, 16 valves, continuous phase transformer and engine management with Bosch ME 7.6.3 integrated electronic injection/ignition system.

Toothed timing drive belt and hydraulic tappets.

The main innovation features the partial circulation of the exhaust gases (E.G.R.) in the combustion chamber produced by delaying the opening of the exhaust valves. However, the presence of exhaust gases (up to 25%) does not adversely affect the rapid and regular combustion because a shuttering system for the inlet ducts and the special asymmetrical design of the actual ducts considerably increases the level of turbulence. The variation in turbulence, between low speeds and full load conditions, is produced by means of a slider valve comprising a suitable shaped plate that slides between the intake manifold and the cylinder head plane opening or closing one of the two inlet ducts for each cylinder.

The modifications made to the timing and the intake and exhaust manifolds have improved performance with a further reduction in consumption and pollutant emissions.

1.9 Multijet

SPECIFICATIONS

This engine is fitted with a high pressure electronic injection system for fast diesel engines. This Bosch Common Rail EDC16C39 system is fully managed by an electronic control unit.

SYSTEM DETAILS

Devices adopted

To reduce polluting emission levels, these engines are equipped with:

- exhaust system with oxidizing catalytic converter and Lambda sensor;

- exhaust gas recirculation system E.G.R.;

- crankcase blowby gas recirculation system.

COMPOSITION

The unit is a system made up of the engine and all circuits required for its operation:

- fuel supply system;

- air turbocharging system;

- engine cooling system;

- exhaust system with catalytic converter;

- oil vapour recirculation system;

- exhaust gas recirculation (E.G.R.) system;

- anti-splash exclusion system.

The operation of these systems is optimised by an electronic control system governed by a control unit.

An awareness of control unit operating strategies allows an overview of the entire system UNIT 10.

CONSTRUCTION

Direct injection turbodiesel engine without ante-chambers, 4 cylinders in line, 1910 cc, twin mass flywheel, two valves per cylinder, single overhead camshaft, turbocharger and intercooler, Bosch Common Rail EDC 16C39 electronic injection system.
