AIRBAG FAILURE WARNING LIGHT ON
The brake fluid warning light remains on with the handbrake not applied.
The brake fluid level signal is sent by the special sensor (N.C. with maximum brake fluid level) to the Body Computer Node which makes it available via the B-CAN to the Instrument Panel Node which lights up the dedicated warning light and displays the insufficient brake fluid level message; if the warning light is faulty the relevant message is displayed.
| Results of the tests | ||||
| 1 | PRELIMINARY CHECK | All OK | Problems met | Operation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Check that the brake fluid/VDC level warning light failure message is not present. Check that the insufficient brake fluid level message is not present | Continue to Step 6 | Warning light failure message present | Continue to Step 7 | |
| Insufficient brake fluid message present | Continue to Step 2 | |||
| 2 | TOP UP BRAKE FLUID LEVEL | All OK | Problems met | Operation |
| Top up the brake fluid level and check that the warning light and the message are not longer present | Continue to Step 9 | The warning light does not go off | Continue to Step 3 | |
| 3 | CHECKING ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT | All OK | Problems met | Operation |
| Disconnect the connector from the fluid level sensor and, using a multimeter, check the efficiency of the connection to earth See E4010 INSTRUMENT PANEL | Continue to Step 4 | Faulty earth | Restore earth connection efficiency See E4010 INSTRUMENT PANEL Continue to Step 3 | |
| 4 | CHECKING ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT | All OK | Problems met | Operation |
| Bridge the cables at the connector and check that the warning light in the instrument panel is not on and the message is no longer present See E4010 INSTRUMENT PANEL | Continue to Step 9 | Warning light on and message present | Continue to Step 5 | |
| 5 | CHECKING ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT | All OK | Problems met | Operation |
| Check the continuity of the cable from the connector to the Body computer See E4010 INSTRUMENT PANEL | Continue to Step 7 | Cable broken | Restore connection See E4010 INSTRUMENT PANEL | |
| 6 | CHECK WITH DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT | All OK | Problems met | Operation |
| Connect the Examiner and check the plausibility, at the Body Computer Node, of the handbrake applied parameter | Continue to Step 7 | The parameter is not plausible | Continue according to the instructions See table K69 | |
| 7 | CHECK WITH DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT | All OK | Problems met | Operation |
| Connect the Examiner or keep it connected and check the operation of the brake fluid level warning light at the Instrument Panel Node through active diagnosis | Continue to Step 8 | The warning light is damaged / not flashing | Replace instrument panel Op. 5560B11 | |
| 8 | CHECK WITH DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT | All OK | Problems met | Operation |
| Keeping the Examiner connected, check the plausibility of the brake fluid level parameter at the Body Computer Node | Continue to Step 9 | The parameter is not plausible | Replace the Body Computer Op. 5505A32 | |
| 9 | CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION | All OK | Problems met | Operation |
| Check that the fault is no longer present | End of diagnosis | The fault persists | Replace the brake fluid reservoir and sensor. | |
To apply this procedure, the following must be borne in mind:
- Measurements cannot be taken on the Air Bag wiring.
- The system fault diagnosis is started leaving the vehicle charges connected.
- The fault should be "Present" or "Present Intermittently" and not "Intermittent". If the fault is Intermittent then the Procedure is not applicable; proceed with an accurate check on the line where the fault was signalled.
- Not all the simulation sensors are available (e.g. side impact sensors).
The Air Bag failure warning light is controlled directly through a dedicatec connection to the "Instrument Panel Node" from the Air Bag Control Unit.
The Air Bag wiring is a safety component. If there are problems with the cables or the connectors then the wiring should be replaced in one piece.
| 1 | ELECTRICAL CONNECTION CHECK | All OK | Problems encountered | Operation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Check that the Air Bag wiring connected is connected to the control unit | Move on to Step 2 | The wiring connector is not connected to the control unit | With the ignition OFF, connect the connector to the control unit then turn the ignition key ON and check that the fault has disappeared | |
| 2 | CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT | All OK | Problems encountered | Operation |
| Connect the diagnostic equipment and activate the dialogue | Move on to Step 3 | The diagnostic dialogue is not activated | Proceed as instructed in the See table Z095 DIAGNOSIS CANNOT BE STARTED ON THE AIRBAG CONTROL UNIT | |
| 3 | CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT | All OK | Problems encountered | Operation |
| Carry out the fault diagnosis of the Air Bag system until one or more errors of the Present type are notified by the control unit | Move on to Step 5 | The diagnostic equipment signals one or more Intermittent type errors | Check that the contact for the wiring connector pins is not loose (pins unstable in their housing, oxidized or distorted) Stress the Air Bag wiring (including any intermediate wiring and connectors between the control unit and the component) and move on to Step 4 | |
| 4 | CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT | All OK | Problems encountered | Operation |
| Check whether the Intermittent type errors have become Present type errors | Move on to Step 5 | The Intermittent type errors have remained the Intermittent type | Delete the errors and move on to Step 6 | |
| 5 | ERRORS IN CONTROL UNIT CHECK | All OK | Problems encountered | Operation |
| Check which Present type error is communicated |
|
| ||
| 6 | CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION | All OK | Problems encountered | Operation |
| Check that the fault is no longer present | End of diagnosis | Fault persists | Replace the Air Bag control unit |
