Rear Suspension - Wheel Hub Cougar 1999 (08/1998-01/2001)
Removal and Installation

Standard Puller

Removal

  1. Loosen the wheel nuts.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.
  1. Remove the wheel.

  1. Disconnect the disc brake pad wear indicator electrical connector (if equipped).

  1. Remove the parking brake cable retaining clip.

  1. Detach the parking brake cable.
    1. Pull back the parking brake lever.
    1. Detach the cable from the parking brake lever.
    1. Detach the conduit retaining clip.
    1. Detach the cable and conduit.

  1. Detach the caliper and anchor plate assembly.
    • Secure the caliper and anchor plate assembly to prevent damage to the flexible brake hose.

  1. Remove the brake disc.
    • Remove the retainers (if equipped).

  1. Remove the hub dust cap.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Use a socket to remove the hub nut to prevent damage.
    Remove the hub nut.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:If the wheel bearing inner ring bore clip is displaced a complete new bearing must be installed.
    Using a suitable puller, remove the hub.

Installation

  1. Install the hub.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Use a socket to install the hub nut to prevent damage.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:If it is necessary to check or adjust the hub nut after installation it must be loosened by at least one turn.
    Install the hub nut.

  1. Install the hub dust cap.

  1. Install the brake disc.
    • Install the retainers (if equipped).

  1. Install the disc brake caliper and anchor plate assembly.

  1. Install the parking brake cable.
    1. Install the cable and conduit.
    1. Install the conduit retaining clip.
    1. Pull back the parking brake lever.
    1. Install the cable to the parking brake lever.

  1. Install the parking brake cable retaining clip.

  1. Connect the disc brake pad wear indicator electrical connector (if equipped).

  1. Install the wheel.
